This article added to my knowledge of unemployment. The unemployment rate in America recently fell to just under 6% for people who did not graduate from high school. This is significant because this is the first time it has been this low in over six years.  Looking at the facts it would seem that things are turning around for people who do not have a high school degree. However, that is not the case. The unemployment numbers have been dropping because people are giving up searching for jobs. They are becoming discouraged and think they will never get a good job, so they just stop looking. It is a shame that people give up so easily. The fastest growing jobs in America today often do not require a high school degree. Americans need to realize that not everyone can be a millionaire. These low skill level jobs are required in an economy.

In this case, the numbers do lie. If you look a little closer, which most do not do, it is clear that unemployment has risen or stayed the same for people in the labor force without a high school diploma. Jobs that require a bachelor’s or a master’s degree are expected to rise within the next ten years. This does not help those who have not graduated high school. Again, people need to understand their abilities and take the low paying jobs that they can get. I think people get mad when they realize they cannot get the high paying jobs they do not want, so they just give up.

Personally, I think the biggest problem is that people feel a sense of entitlement to everything. Even though they do not work hard they think everything should be theirs. When in reality, they are just lazy. If you look at the amount of people on certain government programs it is easy to see that not all of them need it. They do not think they need a job and that they are entitled to these programs. I believe that the Welfare Program is the perfect example of this. I wish there were a way to change some of the laws regarding these programs. I think that if you take away an unemployed persons government benefits, then they will find a job very quick.
